(I) General Provisions
Article 1 The regulations are formulated to further strengthen the standardized administration of foreign students for non-diploma further study in CTBU.
Article 2 The regulations apply to all foreign students for non-diploma studies including further studies in language courses, subjects and internship in CTBU. Further education for foreign students herein are divided into four categories, ie further language course, subjects and internship and short-term professional classes.
(II) Check-in & Registration
Article 3On admission check-in, newly enrolled students shall go through registration formalities at the Foreign Student Office (FSO) after paying the tuitions by presenting the Admission Letter and Form JW202. If it is impossible for anyone to get registered in time due to some particular reason, he (she) shall report to the Foreign Student Office in writing before the date of registration. The extension for registration is two weeks and failure to undergo registration therein shall be regarded as disqualifying themselves voluntarily.
Those who need to apply for visa and residence permit have to go to the FSO to fill out the Letter of Application for Visa (or Residence Permit) and then to Chongqing Immigration Bureau to go through the formalities for visa and residence permit within the specified period, by presenting the Admission Letter bearing CTBU seal.
Newly enrolled students shall be physically examined at
Inspection & Quarantine
. Anyone who fails to meet the health requirements for admission shall have to quit school.
Newly enrolled students lodging outside the campus have to undergo
the formalities for off-campus lodging at the FSO and outside lodgers
who want to change their outside lodging also have to do so at the FSO.
Article 4 Foreign students who study at CTBU for more than one term have to come back to CTBU by the specified deadline to go through the registration formalities for next term. The student who has failed to come back to school for classes without prior permission will be deemed as being absent from school and the one who has delayed registration for one month with CTBU will be regarded as quitting school voluntarily.
(III) Change of Further Study
Article 5 Changes of further study of foreign students include: Change of specialty and category and, extension and termination of study.
Article 6 The foreign student applying for change of further study has to fill in the application form, which shall be then submitted to the FSO for approval and record keeping.
(IV) Attendance and Classroom Discipline
Article 7 Students should consciously abide by the discipline of study, attend classes in time without being late, leaving early and truancy.
Article 8 During class time nobody should go in or out of the classroom at will, eat or do any other things which hamper classes.
Article 9 Application should be submitted for sick leave or private affair leave in advance. Sick leave not over 3 days has to be approved by the lecturing teacher and orally reported to the FSO while that over 3 days, by the FSO.
Article 10 During study at CTBU, students are not allowed to travel outside during school. Travel on weekend shall not be taken as the excuse for hindering normal study, for instance, failing to fulfill off-class assignments.
Article 11 Foreign students will enjoy Chinese national holidays and summer and winter school vacations but not their national holidays in principle. A special occasion shall be dealt with accordingly by the FSO after receiving the application from a student.
Article 12 Foreign students who have asked for four weeks of leave during their study have to either suspend their schooling or quit school.
(V) Assessment (incl. exams, tests, checks) and Records
Article 13 Usually exams (tests) and checks will beboth made for assessment of the studies of
foreign students and the scores thereof taken as the basis for judging if a student is up to the requirements of the related course.
Article 14 The score of a course is determined by a comprehensive appraisal of outcome at ordinary times (incl. the mid-term exam, class discussions, assignments, theses and attendance, etc.) and marks of the course completion exam. In principle, the outcome at ordinary times amounts to 20-30% and the marks of the course completion exam to 70-80% of the total score.
Article 15 Foreign students must take part in all exams, tests and/or checks on the courses they take each term according to the teaching plan. The student who is not able to participate in an exam in time because of a special reason must present his (her) justifiable reason to the FSO and a written application for a make-up exam, followed by undergoing the normal make-up.
Article 16 When a student fails the assessment of a course in a term, one make-up exam will be arranged in the last week of that term or the 1st week of next term and the result actually obtained in the make-up exam will be recorded as it is. 50 yuan is charged for each make-up exam on one course. For the student who is absent from the exam on a course without a justifiable reason, his (her) score of this course will be zero and he (she) cannot have a normal make-up exam. For the student with a special reason, a make-up exam can be given subject to the approval by the FSO.
Article 17 For the student with one of the following situations on one course, he will suffer
a failure in the appraisal of his achievements at ordinary times.
(Ⅰ) Being absent from school on one course for 1/3 or over 1/3 of the total class periods;
(Ⅱ) Failing to complete and hand in assignments and experiment reports for 1/3 or over 1/3 of the total number;
(Ⅲ) Serious plagiarism found in assignment
Article 18 For the student with one of the following situations on one course, he (she) will be deprived of the eligibility to participate in the assessment on a course.
(Ⅰ) Failing to pass in assessment of his (her) studies at ordinary times due to truancies;
(Ⅱ) Being absent from classes for over a week
Article 19 For the student deprived of the eligibility to participate in the assessment on a course, the FSO will formally inform the student and the course teacher that the student’s overall score of the that course is zero and that the student is not eligible to have a make-up exam.
Article 20 Students should be informed in writing of their scores of assessment every term. When a student leaves CTBU at the end of study, the certificate of course completion and transcript will be taken by himself (herself) or mailed to the college he (she) was sent from in his (her) own country. Postage would be paid by student his/herself. And CTBU will keep records of those mentioned above as tipulated.
Article 21 Students must strictly abide by the rules of examination, without cheating in exams.
For a student practicing fraud in an exam, he will be given a zero for the course involved and is not eligible to have a normal make-up exam besides the punishment he (she) will take accordingly.
Article 22 For a student who has quitted or suspended schooling or completed study at CTBU and comes to study here again, he (she) can be excused from the course he (she) previously passed, with his original score to be kept in records in the new term.
Article 23 Further study scores of foreign students are recorded in 100 points according to the examination results.
Article 24 At the end of each term exam, the FSO will check the scores provided by the teachers and print the transcript which shall be stamped with the seal of CTBU or the International Cooperation & Exchange Office (ICEO).
(VI) Preparation, Printing and Issuance of Certificates of Studies
Article 25 The FSO is responsible for preparation of the Certificate of Studies of the Chinese version for foreign students of further studies. At the end of each term, the FSO undertakes to check the list of foreign students who are engaged in and completed further studies, print the Certificate of Studies of Chinese version in a unified format according to the above list, and stamp with the seal of CTBU. Foreign students will get the Certificate of Studies from the FSO.
(VII) Termination of Further Study and Leave from CTBU
Article 26 The student who needs to terminate his (her) further study has to undergo the formalities of study suspension. He (She) has to fill in the Form of Application by Foreign Student of Non-diploma Study for Termination of Further Study in CTBU and submit to the FSO.
Article 27 For the student with one of the following situations on one course, he (she) should
(I)Having been absent for 50% of the total class periods in one term;
(II)Fail to pay tuitions in the first month after school starts;
(III)Having seriously violated law and/or regulations.
Article 28 The FSO has the right to take the relevant action to or even deprive the student’s eligibility for further study who has violated the relevant provision of CTBU Administration Regulations of Foreign Students of Non-diploma Further Study
Article 29 The student who has been deprived of eligibility for further study is no longer a CTBU student from the approval date. The FSO will notify the immigration department to cancel his (her) visa of study in
Article 30 Foreign students whose stay for further study has come to an end should go through the school-leaving formalities in time, including: canceling Student ID and Visa or the Residence Permit at the FSO, annulling the library card and returning articles borrowed from the school.
